‘I Want To Talk About Ireland’, Sarah Long – Opening Reception and Listening Event

‘I Want To Talk About Ireland’, Sarah Long – Opening Reception and Listening Event

September 24 - September 24, 2026
5:30-7:30pm
Triskel Arts Centre

All are welcome to attend this Opening Reception and Listening Event, which presents I Want To Talk About Ireland, the newest body of work by TRISKEL SAMPLE Project Space Resident Sarah Long.

Long explores suppressed female archetypes, the politics of representation, nationhood and myth through the lens of feminism. I Want To Talk About Ireland engages in visual fictioning across painting, performance, sound and writing as material. With this new body of work, Long uses her autofictional persona Mary, a modern day iteration of the Mother Ireland figure, alongside the aesthetics and fluidity of girlhood, as a mode of criticality. Curated by Niamh Brown

The Opening Reception takes place in TRISKEL SAMPLE Project Space from 5:30-6:30pm. At 6:30pm, all are invited to enter Christchurch across the hall from the Project Space, where Long will present a Listening Event of her debut spoken word album which accompanies this body of work from 6:30-7:30pm. Long will be in conversation with the musician Laurie Shaw, who produced the record. Floating in a musical landscape of cinematic sound design, strings and electronic beats, Long’s existential, inner monologue engages with ideas of nationhood, womanhood and voice through expressions of girlhood.
