Introduction:
Muscle memory is a memory that lives deep within us all. The purpose of this workshop is to further explore memory through performance by developing a narrative using gesture and voice. Learning to draw from prompts in the form of visual mixed media work and/or written poetry, participants will develop techniques of connecting the body and mind and to make physical expression in a performance (spoken word or abstract movement).
Wear comfortable clothing and bring your own yoga mat.
Workshop:
In this workshop, attendees will:
- Learn basic vocal and body exercises
- Develop physical language to express ideas drawn from visual and verbal prompts
- Explore emotions from past experiences and memories that will deepen the narrative towards creating a performance
- Develop a short performance sequence
- Participant performance (optional) and documentation filming (also optional)
About the Facilitator:
Vicki Davis is a visual artist from Skibbereen who now lives in Cork City. Her interdisciplinary practice is primarily focused on performance, film, sound and installation that breaks down the fourth wall. Holding a B.A (Hons) in Visual Art with First Class Honours from TUDublin, School of Creative Arts, B.A.V.A Sherkin Island. Vort_i_City, her immersive film installation created for Intertidal _ TUDublin Graduate Exhibition was shortlisted for the RDS Visual Art Award, 2020. She exhibited a participatory installation titled Meatán, as part of the FALL/OUT strand by Pluck Project Visual Art Curators in Residence for Cork Midsummer Festival, 2021. She is one of 9 Community GROUND0 Artists in residence at The Guesthouse Project, Cork. Vicki is a member of Sample-Studios and she is a professional member of Circus Factory, Cork.
