Visit www.corkbasant.com for full details and programme.
Cork Basant Festival is a vibrant, family-friendly event that celebrates the arrival of spring through South Asian traditions of kite flying, cultural performances, art, food, and community connection. Held annually in Carrigaline, Cork, the festival is open to all and brings together people of diverse backgrounds to share in a joyful day of colour, culture, and creativity. Founded by visual artist Amna Walayat, the festival is inspired by the traditional Basant (meaning yellow) celebration — a South Asian spring festival known for its kite-flying, mango parties, music, and dance.
With support from The Arts Council of Ireland, Cork County Council, Creative Communities, Rethink Ireland, Sample-Studios, and Spice Garden, the event continues to grow as a symbol of inclusion, creativity, and cultural pride.
From kite-making workshops and live dance performances to art exhibitions, mango tasting, and family games, every corner of the festival is designed to create meaningful connections and lifelong memories. Our passionate volunteer team, including Jasmin Singh, Sana Asam, and Tomiwa Morris — ensures that every moment is engaging, welcoming, and true to the spirit of Basant. Whether you’re flying your first kite or celebrating your heritage, Cork Basant Festival is your place to belong.
Cork Basant Festival is founded and organised by Amna Walayat, a participant in Studios of Sanctuary Programme with Sample-Studios, generously funded by Rethink Ireland Resilient Cork Fund and Community Foundation Ireland.
