Sandra Kelly is Visual Arts and Education Manager at Garter Lane Arts Centre, where she curates both contemporary exhibitions and community-focused projects. Kelly’s curatorial focus is on engagement for both the artists and the audience in creating spaces that allow interaction and exploration for both artist and the audience.
Kelly’s curatorial practice focuses on the domestic and the boundaries that can be created around us. She aims to create a space in which artists and audiences can explore exhibitions. Using humour and architectural intervention Kelly tries to present often non-traditional works. in a mix of spaces. This can be seen in her curation of Balloon Boy, haven taken the work of Shane Keeling out of the traditional gallery space and presented it on the Main Street of Waterford’s Cultural Quarter. Removing boundaries for both artist/audience Shane’s piece, Balloon Boy, was able to reach a wider audience by uncovering information about men’s mental health. Other Independent curatorial projects include Sisters of the Moon, Tell Me, and Dystopia.
Sandra will visit Sample-Studios members in June 2023.
