Eamonn will share practical insights into how artists can approach opportunities for their work internationally, communicate their work clearly to curators outside the Irish context and build meaningful relationships with institutions abroad. The session will support members who are ambitious to exhibit their work abroad to consider the practical steps including international exhibition applications, the realities of programming considerations, and the many conversations that shape a show long before it opens to the public in an Irish or international context. He’ll also give artists some advice on what not to do too! Whether you are seeking exhibition opportunities abroad now or looking at options for the longer term development of your practice, join us on 1 December to consider expanding your practice globally!

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Eamonn Maxwell has worked as a curator and advisor in the visual arts for over 20 years. He has curated numerous exhibitions across the world including the Irish Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2011. From 2009 – 2016 he was Director of Lismore Castle Arts, where he programmed significant exhibitions by leading international and Irish artists. Latterly he has worked as a collection adviser to Arts Council of Ireland, Goldsmiths College London and private collectors. He has lectured at Crawford College of Art and Design, Ulster University and University College Dublin. He holds a BA (Hons) in Visual Arts, with thesis on Contemporary Northern Irish Photography, from Camberwell College of Arts, London and a MA in Museum and Gallery Management, with thesis on Supporting Emerging Artists, from City University London. In addition he has qualifications in corporate governance, marketing and fundraising for the arts.
