The aim of this two-part workshop is to create a dialogue around a work of art. The workshop is open to all interested participants, regardless of experience. We will be exploring ideas of art writing, ekphrasis and alternative forms of criticism. The workshop’s output will be an amalgamation of the groups’ response to an exhibition. We will be engaging with ideas from Oscar Wilde’s The Critic As Artist (1891), The White Pube and the Oulipo movement. By creating an environment where a response can be responded to, we aim to foster a culture of discussion. Key readings will be circulated in advance to inform our discussion of the Cork art scene. The workshop will include a number of writing exercises and participants are invited to share their finished work on our website.
The Paper is a platform for discussing and responding to contemporary visual art events in Cork. We aim to provide a space for open discussion in the Cork art scene. Created by artists Sarah Long and Niamh Murphy, The Paper engages with a variety of different creatives and writers.
