Join us on Cruinniu na nÓg Saturday 11th June in Cork City Library for the launch of the ‘A City Rising’ Programme Exhibition.
‘A City Rising’ Youth Architecture Programme enabled young people, from 16-25 years to gain an understanding of architecture and the built environment through creative mediums such as photography, printmaking, architectural drawing, painting and more. Sample-Studios, supported by The Arts Council Engaging with Architecture Scheme and Creative Ireland worked with young people throughout Cork since March to develop their responses to Cork City’s built environment through their own creativity.
This programme aims to make architecture, design think-ing, urban planning and the built environment are accessible to young people. It is vital that young people in Cork City are facilitated in having the design language, architectural awareness and critical thinking skills necessary to navigate the significant changes to their urban landscape that are taking place and that they are supported to be active participants in the architectural development of their City and informed custodians of our built heritage.
In addition to supporting the development of young people’s awareness of architecture and stimulating their engagement with the urban space through creative means, this programme also enables young people to engage directly with Cork-based role models within this field and better understand the careers paths available to them in architecture and related industries.
The programme consisted of a series of workshops and walking tours with experienced tutors, from March to June 2022, culminating in this exhibition in Cork City Library, created by the young people as part of Cruinniu na nÓg 2022.
A City Rising is proudly supported by The Arts Council of Ireland Engaging with Architecture Scheme and Creative Ireland.
