“Braid”, a is a collaborative show by Sample-Studio members; Edith O’Regan, Amna Walayat, Samir Mahmood and John MacMonagle. The exhibition opens on Friday September 9th at 5pm in The Lord Mayor’s Pavilion in Fitzgerald’s Park in Cork.
These four Irish-based artists have been collaborating with each other over the past year, meeting face-to-face when possible but mainly on Zoom, exploring their shared artistic experiences. Walayat and Mahmood are Pakistani artists, Associate Members of Sample-Studios and are living and working in Ireland. O’Regan and MacMonagle are Irish artists based in Sample-Studios, Churchfield, Cork.
This interweaving by four different artists from two different cultural backgrounds has produced a unique experience. The artists worked together in an experimental and collaborative way to explore their cultural similarities and differences. All four artists have had one-on-one interactions with each other to discuss and understand their individual practices, so apart from their own work, each artist has also produced a piece that reflects this collaborative process. @braid_sample_studios, #braidsamplestudios
