Sample-Studios presents ‘Bríd’s Tearoom’ in The Lord Mayor’s Pavilion from 5 December – 11 January, in collaboration with Crawford Art Gallery and Crawford Supported Studios.
Bríd Heffernan presents a playful artist’s tearoom, responding to the Pavilion’s initial function as a reception area for welcoming dignitaries to the Cork International Exhibition of 1903. Bríd’s tearoom presents cats, hand-made ceramics, and screen printing using pattern and floral motifs with vibrant pops of colour.
Closed for Christmas 22 Dec – 1 Jan.
About the Artist
Bríd Heffernan is adventurous and playful in her approach to art making, incorporating printmaking, ceramics, embroidery on found fabric, and hand-painted recycled furniture. She looks to multiple sources for inspiration, drawing ideas from fashion magazines, books photographs and her cat, creating mixed media artworks that incorporate playful pops of colour and pattern.
Bríd worked as an artist in residence with Mayfield Centre Arts for a decade as part of Cúig supported studios. She has exhibited widely; selected venues include Gallerie Outsider Art Amsterdam, Hamburg International Literary Festival Germany, KFEST Killorglin, Temple Bar Gallery Dublin, MTU School of Music Cork, ‘Imagine’ Arts Festival Waterford, Boyle Arts Festival, Southbank Gallery London, ‘Arts and Minds’ Canberra Australia, HAI New York, and ‘Other Voices’ Paul Bardwell Gallery of Contemporary Art, Colombia.
Bríd is a member of the Crawford Supported Studio, a partnership between the Crawford College of Arts and Design and Crawford Art Gallery with support from Cork City Council.
For this exhibition, she also received funding from Cork County Council Arts Office under the artists’ bursary scheme.
