With the support of Cork City Council Arts Office and Creative Engagement, TACTIC is proud to present METAMORPHOSIS: an exhibition of artwork created by Cork Educate Together Secondary School students over the past year, in collaboration with Sample-Studios members.
Working with print, ceramics, textile design, digital art and more, the CETSS students have developed a colourful and technically impressive body of work with their teacher Dawn O’Sullivan and Sample-Studios artists, around the theme METAMORPHOSIS. As these students began their first year in a brand new school, the very first Educate Together Secondary School in Cork, through their art class they explored ideas of change and transformation, as it occurs in their personal lives, nature and the environment, story telling and character development, fashion, social media and pop culture.
Together with Sample-Studios artists, the students developed these ideas and learned new creative skills such as printmaking, digital drawing, stitching and textile design with Killian O’Dwyer, Aideen Quirke, Lesley Stothers, Paul McKenna. Beginning with studio visits at the beginning of the academic year last August, these students have been mentored by Sample-Studios artists to encourage experimentation, documentation and creative learning through art in this collaborative exchange. Led by TACTIC programmer Emily O’Flynn, the students have formed a curatorial team to interpret and curate the exhibition.
With the support of Cork City Council Arts Office, TACTIC is delighted to present this exhibition of student work in the beautiful surrounds of the Crypt at St. Luke’s, Cork City. The exhibition will travel to the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Kilmainham, Dublin this October as part of the Creative Engagement Annual Exhibition.
