Tom Doig will be Sample Studio’s artist in residence at The Lord Mayor’s Pavilion in Fitzgerald’s Park from February 3rd to March 16th 2020.
Pop into the pavilion to meet the artist and learn more about his reseach and practice. Check the schedule on events page for times.
Tom will use the space and his time on the residency to research, make new work and explore the Fitzgerald’s Park environs by using visual documentation, in the form of photography, collage and drawing. He will explore the history of the park as a leisure facility for the people of Cork, it’s current incarnation, as well as visions for its future. Throughout the residency Tom will be open to the public to discuss his practice and his research findings.
Tom is a Cork City based artist and muralist who graduated from CIT Crawford College of Art & Design in 2017 with a Masters in Art and Process. Since then he has maintained a studio practice in Cork where he is known for his collage works, murals and public art projects. He seeks to create imaginative disruptions to the received ideas and factual information which are inherent within the source material. He works with digital software as well as original print material and paper, to create speculative fictions which challenge the visible and invisible structures of received knowledge. He lends these compositions a tenuous validity by maintaining their logical believability as photographs.
