Sample-Studios members Liam Lavery & Ethne Ring have been awarded the 2024 residency programme at Spike Island which will take place from 1st April – 30th September. The award includes a €2000 bursary and a solo exhibition on the island.
Spike Island was witnessed 1300 years a history as a remote monastery, a fortress and was formerly the world’s largest prison. In 2019, it was named Best Tourist Attraction at the International Travel and Tourism Awards and has been named one of the best experiences in the country by Lonely Planet. It is an island full of memories and stories – a unique location to create new work inspired by context.
The residency is the result of a partnership with Spike Island and Sirius Arts Centre, and is supported by the Arts Council of Ireland Arts Grants.
