My art practice generally revolves around the ideas of Colonialism, Orientalism, Migration and Gender. Currently, my focus is on feminism while investigating the ‘Culture of Shame’ in various societies. Through wide range of symbolism, historical fragments and socio-cultural juxtaposition, I try to engage my work with the living issues of the society where I live or lived. Therefore, often my work explorers the links of present with past, one culture with another; and society with my personal entity (as an artist, female, mother, migrant and human). I am academically trained as mixed media oils and traditional style Indian miniature paintings. My work is experimental, and I endeavour to extend my practice into contemporary mediums such as videos, installation, performances, sound and multimedia projections.
