Annie Mar is a Cork-based visual artist and illustrator. Through personal narrative, figuration and colour she uses painting and drawing to play out themes of identity and relationship, seeking out animal figures as archetypes for her own stories and creating dream landscapes where these figures can speak back to her. The work relies on textures and layers to communicate feelings of frustration, wonder, empathy and isolation.
Annie is one half of La Casita, a small creative studio dedicated to ecological projects in Ireland and internationally; working with Burrenbeo Trust, Farming for Nature, WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), Great Irish Grasslands, and more. Annie is a founding member and events programmer at Cork Zine Fest which offers a platform for DIY principles; creating space, community and opportunities for sharing practice with other creatives, activists and community groups.
