As an older female artist, looking back over the years I am fascinated by how systems in place in society contrive to make us conform to fit into its mould. It is an age old concern – each generation, all genders, faces cultural templates. Attitude, prejudices and assumptions are hard-wired into our
language, culture and millennia of our history.
These persisting societal forces are powerful and penetrate our thinking, our hopes and our potential.
In today’s discourse ‘choice’ dominated developments around identity, especially female identity.
How freely made are our choices really?
What questions should we be asking ourselves?
Whose story are we living in?
My work seeks to explore these processes and prejudices and investigate if we are asking the right questions.
