Cass is a highly observant person – nearly always noticing repetition, or a lack thereof, in the world around her. One of her favourite exercises is to zoom out from what caught her attention and document the broader context. Cass is fascinated with these patterns found in everyday life.

The repeated textures and utilitarian nature of these functional designs are a large source of inspiration for her. By isolating these patterns and augmenting their function from solely practical to artistic inspiration, Cass strives to capture the humanity of their creation – an echo of the artisan or industrial designer who had a hand in making them.

At present, Cass’s practice has two threads. One is continuing to translate her photo documentation of urban environments into print via photopolymer and screen print techniques. The other is to combine her fine metal and printmaking practices by exploring how both mediums can be used to imprint upon the other.
