About the member

Helle Helsner is a visual artist based in West Cork with a particularly interest in landscape, memory and materiality. She explores this through a practice based on sculpture and drawing, with her roots firmly in prehistoric bronze casting,–  integrating ancient technology within the contemporary work.

Helle lectures in Crawford College of Art and Design and is currently undertaking a PhD through Burren College of Art.

She has exhibited nationally, and internationally, with work in private and public collections including the Danish State Collection, The OPW and the RTE collection.

Helsner

My practice is concerned with connections between landscape, materiality, and social politics. Referencing the cultural landscape of Allihies, Beara Peninsula, Co Cork and its disused copper mines and related industries, I am particularly interested in the women and the inherent raw yet sublimely feminine landscape connected to the area alongside its wider political connotations in a world of extractivism and material use.
