About the member

Mari Rolin is a Brazilian comic book artist, illustrator, linguist and workshop facilitator with great interest in drawing and sequential art. Her work revolves around the blurred lines between the fantastic and the mundane, drawing from magical realism, fantasy and horror.
Working frequently with ink, watercolour and graphite, she is used to work both individually and as part of collective creative projects. Mari is part of both the editorial and artistic team behind the comic anthology OPArt, nominated for the Angoulême Alternative Comics Award in 2024. Her regular practice includes the creation of zines and paper-based artwork.

Mari
Rolin

As an artist interested in sequential art and visual narrative, I recognise storytelling as a fundamental element binding the human experience. My work lays within fantastic realism and fiction, seeing those stylistic approaches as powerful tools unfettered by reality. I work with ink, watercolour and digital editing where required, enjoying how these mediums allow me to sit with the work, progressively building the visual narrative with each layer, creating contained universes, inviting the observer to meditate on the detailed aspects of each panel.
