By creating sculptural artworks and installations which encompass both construction and destruction, McDonogh reveals the outcome of juxtaposing these two themes. Often inspired by the area where she lives, she is motivated to explore the idea of decay and why we are driven to continue building structures within our landscapes. She abstracts the architecture and matter of urban life and translates this into her sculptures and installations by referencing architecture, construction and derelict sites. By using ordinary industrial materials and processes, she gives her subject a presence which is not usually acknowledged in everyday scenarios.
