Cork City Centre and Dockland Area has a magnetic quality for me. It is the source material out of which I make new places. Using photography and collage I create urban landscapes. Mixing the elements of buildings, ships and cranes, I contrast the different eras these buildings and structures come from. I explore the collages in a variety of media paying attention to areas of suspension, tension and balance. I like to work on a large scale so as to feel I can step into these landscapes and move around the elements. The aim of my artwork is to invite conversation around the subject of place. What do the buildings and structures in this place tell us about the people who lived and worked there in the past as compared to the present? How do we envision living there in the future?
