Riki Matsuda is a multidisciplinary artist originally from the U.S. After receiving her BFA from CCAD, with minors in art history and writing, she moved to South Carolina to pursue an artistic career. During that time she contributed to countless shows, exhibitions, and community events including Charleston Supported Arts and Moving Parts – a two person exhibition at Redux Contemporary Gallery, before settling in Ireland in 2019.
Matsuda creates playful work focused on the limitations of language and communication. Using word-play, body language, and personal experiences, her work unfurls misunderstandings with a sense of humour and affection.
(I want my work) to taste like the first pretzel out of a freshly opened bag
look like the unfocused shapes you see while walking at night
feel like the way my father held a tomato in his hand before eating it
smell like the pillow you sleep with every night
walk like it will reach someone on time
sleep like it’s dreaming of a big green house
stop when it starts rambling
