Debbie Dawson is a Cork-based visual artist and educator. In her practice, she works through the mediums of painting and glass researching themes of memory and childhood through the lens of landscape. She creates dream worlds or types of utopian panoramas as a means of expressing universal emotions by utilising specific, autobiographical moments from childhood and imbuing them with mystical and intangible interpretations.
She has exhibited extensively; locally, nationally in numerous group shows, and internationally including USA, Denmark, Germany, Italy and Shanghai where she had a solo show in 2014. Her work is held in private and public collections including the National Museum of Ireland and the Office of Public Works. She has extensive teaching experience, delivering workshops in Shanghai University, Bild-Werk Academy in Germany, several artist-in-prison schemes and as a full-time lecturer in MTU Crawford College of Art & Design. She was previous Chairperson of the Glass Society of Ireland. She has received numerous awards including from Cork City & County Councils, The Arts Council of Ireland, and Design & Crafts Council of Ireland. She is a Creative Network member of Sample-Studios.
