Kayleigh Maimaran will take up residency in Triskel from 10-23 June. A Berlin-based artist, Kayleigh has a particular interest in the concept of psychological space and architecture. Her practice combines video, sound, and sculptural elements as a form to explore physical and non-visual aspects of space. The installation-based work explores the destruction of plant life by man-made space. The building and construction sector is one of the largest emitters of greenhouse gases and is responsible for 39% of all carbon emissions globally. Our weakened ecosystem is therefore challenged to become more resilient to physical changes within the environment. With the intention to set a focus on endangered plant life, this work plays with abstract architectural space and mass-produced plastic plants in unnatural lighting to represent artificially and the loss of biodiversity in our cities.
Artist Bio
Kayleigh graduated in 2021 from MTU Crawford College of Art and Design with a BA in Fine Art and was awarded a Graduate Studio Residency at Sample–Studios. Her work has been part of multiple exhibitions including her solo exhibition Beyond Liminal (2022), at the Lord Mayor’s Pavilion, Cork and her most recent solo exhibition Void Scape (2024) at GlogauAIR, Berlin, which was concerned with the theme of non-habitable space and the idea of exploring architecture as a complex sensory phenomenon.
